COVID-19 infection rates continue to rise in Herefordshire, with schools and businesses disrupted following positive cases of the virus and staff and pupils forced to self-isolate.

In Herefordshire, the COVID-19 infection rate for the seven day period ending 11th July was 123.4 cases per 100,000 population. This is up 24.6% on the previous seven day period when the infection rate was 99.1 cases per 100,000 population.

The area with the highest COVID-19 infection rate in Herefordshire is Colwall, Cradley & Wellington Heath, with 14 new cases recorded in the seven day period ending 11th July, meaning that the infection rate was 240.2 cases per 100,000 population, up 27.3% on the previous seven day period. This is closely followed by Ross-on-Wye, with 23 new cases recorded in the seven day period ending 11th July, meaning that the infection rate was 203.4 cases per 100,000 population, up 155.6% on the previous seven day period.

Schools and educational settings across the county continue to be disrupted, with John Kyrle High School, Wigmore High School and many others significantly affected with members of staff and a number of pupils being advised to self-isolate following positive tests.

However, there is some good news. Latest figures from Public Health England indicate that 84.1% of adults in Herefordshire have now received their first COVID-19 vaccination, with 67.5% of adults now fully vaccinated. This has meant that despite a significant increase in the number of people testing positive for COVID-19 in Herefordshire, the actual number being admitted to hospital remains low, ahead of the full relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions on Monday (19th July).
