Councillors have today unanimously agreed to vote to approve the Council Tax reduction scheme for 2021/22, with increased discounts compared to the existing scheme. It means that local residents facing financial hardship will continue to be given and in some cases may receive further support to help them pay their council tax.

Councillor Kevin Tillett said that many residents in the city, particularly those in his ward of Hunderton and Hinton, desperately needed this support. He highlighted that Newton Farm is one of the most deprived areas of the country and that further support to help residents should be granted.

In today’s budget meeting, numerous councillors stated concerns over the number of local residents that may be forced into financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
