Residents and visitors to Leominster are being asked for their views on investment to help renew and rejuvenate the high street and conservation area
Leominster is one of a number of high streets in England to receive a share of the government’s £95million High Streets Heritage Action Zone fund which seeks to breathe new life into high streets that are rich in heritage and potential.
Until March 2024, Herefordshire Council and Leominster Town Council will be working in partnership with residents, businesses and community groups to deliver a range of projects, agreed with Historic England, that aim to renew and rejuvenate Leominster’s High Street and conservation area.
One key area of work is to improve the public realm (streets, pavements, lighting and street furniture) in the centre of town, with a focus on Corn Square, to rejuvenate Leominster’s historic heart. The £1.1million investment will help to make the most of Leominster’s potential as a retail area, visitor attraction and events venue for our local community.
To help understand what is important to local residents, visitors and businesses, a consultation is being held to gather feedback on how Leominster’s town centre streets should be improved.
The consultation is available on the Herefordshire Council website at herefordshire.gov.uk/leominsterhaz or you can share your thoughts at:
- Saturday 14 May, Leominster Corn Square Farmers Market
- Monday 16 May, live webinar 6-7pm. If you would like to attend please register your interest at herefordshire.gov.uk/leominsterhaz
- Friday 27 May, Leominster Corn Square Farmers Market
The consultation will close on Tuesday 21 June 2022.
Councillor Ellie Chowns, Herefordshire Council’s Cabinet member for environment and economy, said: “This exciting investment in the heart of Leominster will help reinvigorate public spaces for visitors, shoppers and the local community – and we’d like to know what you think we should be focussing on. What is going to encourage people to visit and spend more time enjoying all that our market town has to offer?
“Whether you live locally and spend lots of time in the town, or just visit occasionally, please take five minutes to let us know how we can make the best use of the funding and what would make the most difference for you.”
Councillor John Rumsey, Leominster Town Council’s Mayor, said: “We welcome this much-needed investment for Leominster and strongly encourage all residents and businesses to take part in the consultation.”
