The question on everyone’s lips. Could Herefordshire be about to see a white Christmas?
Quite often, there is more chance of seeing snow on Easter Sunday than there is on Christmas Day, but there are signs that this year could be different, although forecasters are still sitting on the fence, with snow being well known as the most difficult weather type to forecast.
The Met Office forecast for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day currently says:
“Milder with rain at times and rather murky on Thursday and Christmas Eve. Turning colder on Christmas Day with a chance of snow over the hills later. Breezy at times.”
However, Bryan from Herefordshire Weather Watch is a bit more positive about the chances of snow on the big day, although Boxing Day is looking more exciting. Bryan said earlier:
“Some cracking model outputs this morning still keeping the colder air south with chances of some white stuff late on Christmas day and Boxing Day.
“Just need the ECM model to jump on board and it’s game on. A lot riding on today’s runs, then we can start looking at amounts once we know the risk is there.
“Few of you the other day were saying the Met Office was forecasting 10c and rain. If you’ve checked recently they are now showing 5c and showers and it will change again if models continue (don’t forgot when we’re looking at the charts we are looking at temperatures up in the atmosphere not at ground level). So hope this doesn’t collapse now just four days out and it’s still sitting pretty, let’s see what today brings.”
