Over 200 people gathered in Hereford High Town today to join campaigners around the world calling for climate justice in the COP26 negotiations.
The event at noon was organised by Hereford Friends of the Earth alongside Extinction Rebellion as part of the Cop26 Coalition.
While tens of thousands of campaigners marched on Glasgow during the COP26 climate negotiations, Hereford campaigners struck a more sombre note with singing followed by a 15 minute vigil amid a colourful display of placards
‘We are here today to bear witness in time honoured tradition to the COP in Glasgow and to send our thoughts and support to those in the halls and on the streets. We also join with citizens around the world in parishes, villages, towns and cities calling for justice for those, human and non-human who have in the past, are in the present, and will in the future, bear the brunt of this climate and ecological crisis – and we demand reparation,’ Rick Guest, one of the event organisers, told those gathered.
