Reports are stating this morning that the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) are calculating that up to 7,000 lives could be saved, if a circuit-breaker lockdown takes place for two weeks from the 24th October.
Pressure is growing on the Prime Minister with Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer and Lib Dem leader Ed Davey both backing calls by the scientists for the two to three week lockdown over half term. There are also reports that Northern Ireland may enter a circuit-breaker lockdown by the end of this week after a significant spike in hospital admissions.
It’s unlikely that a circuit-breaker style lockdown would currently be supported by Herefordshire MP’s or Councillors, with Wye Valley NHS Trust reporting no significant increase in COVID-19 cases.
