British Land have responded to criticism over raising parking charges at the Old Market in Hereford.
Many people have commented on social media posts stating that the Old Market is privately owned and therefore it is up to British Land to decide what they charge, but they say this isn’t strictly the case.
A spokesperson for British Land told Your Herefordshire:
“The car park tariffs at Old Market are tied into named council owned car parks within the city as part of the development agreement within the city and we are obliged to mirror these tariffs.
“Hereford Council raised their tariffs last year as soon as we came out of lockdown.
“We have managed to keep prices at the lower level for the last 12 months but the council gave us until 1st April 2022 to comply.”
Your Herefordshire has approached Herefordshire Council for comment.
