Prime Minister Boris Johnson has defended the Government’s handling of the free school meals situation by saying that he is proud of the support the government has given.
The Prime Minister said: “Well, I haven’t spoken to Marcus since June but I think what he’s doing is terrific.
“I totally understand the issue of holiday hunger, it is there and we have to deal with it.
“The debate is how you deal with it. We are very proud of the support we’ve given.
“We’ve said repeatedly through this crisis that the government will support families and businesses, jobs and livelihoods across the country, and we’re going to continue to do that.
“We do not want to see children going hungry this winter, this Christmas, and certainly not because of any inattention from this government.”
