From Balfour Beatty:

We need to let you know about some work we’re planning on the B4224 – Between Fownhope Village and Fiddlers Green. Whilst we will complete some of this work under traffic lights, given the nature of the work this will require us to close the road for one week. This is for the safety of both our workforce and the travelling public as the road is not wide enough for both the machinery required and a safe running lane for traffic.

B4224 Fownhope – Between Scotch Firs and Lower House Gardens

Highways Resurfacing – Under full road closure, Starting on Monday, 23 August 2021 to (and including) Tuesday, 24 August 2021 between 09.00 hours and 17.00 hours. No weekend working.

B4224 – Mordiford to Fownhope (Fiddlers Green)

Highways Resurfacing and drainage improvement works – Under full road closure, Starting on Wednesday, 25 August 2021 to (and including) Friday, 27 August 2021 between 09.00 hours and 17.00 hours. No weekend working.

Some works required under traffic lights outside of this time. The fully signed diversion route for cars/LGVs is via the C1292 Dormington / A438 Trumpet / A4172 Preston Cross / A449 Old Gore Crossroads / B4224 towards Fownhope and vice versa. We have planned these works to ensure there is no conflict with other works and closures on the B4224. We appreciate that it will be seen to be the case that we could have delivered these works whilst the B4224 was closed for the flood damage repairs. Doing so would have created further access difficulties, for both our works and residents. In addition, given the scale of our commitment to other works across the County, we did not have the resources available to progress at that time.

Although there may be limited periods of time when access to homes, businesses or other premises will not be possible at all or may be restricted, to ensure your safety and that of workers, we will do everything we can to assist.

Plan ahead. If you know of specific dates or times when access is needed, for example if you are a carer visiting someone at home or are moving house, please contact us at Herefordshire.projectcomms@balfourbeatty.com in advance of the works starting. During work: If something happens that means you need access and you have not already spoken to us, you can get help and guidance from designated marshals who are on site.

The emergency services will have access at all times.

The programme of work may change in certain circumstances, such as adverse weather. All changes will be highlighted on Advance Warning signs which are situated at both ends of the affected road. Did you know, you can follow us on Twitter at @HfdsStreets – where we let road users know all things highways, so you’ll always know when to take extra care. You can also find us on Facebook – check out our Herefordshire Highways page.

For your safety, please be aware that works will involve the use of hot materials which may stick to footwear and tyres. Avoid walking or driving across newly laid surfaces. Also, heavy construction machinery may be in use. Please don’t allow children to run or play either on or near machines. You must never, unless directed by a gateman, enter a road closed for roadworks. Road workers have been killed and injured by road users who have done so.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you. At Balfour Beatty we work in partnership with Herefordshire Council to minimise the impact of our work and try to keep all disruption to a minimum – we appreciate your patience.
