Herefordshire Council has approved plans to spend £139,000 on additional ceiling and roofing repairs at a Herefordshire Primary School.

A report shared by Herefordshire Council confirmed the decision to:

“Vary the contract with Central Roofing & Building Services Ltd for the additional unforeseen ceiling and roofing works at St Mary’s Primary School, Credenhill, Hereford to complete the additional works.

“Approve the expenditure of up to £126,122.18 for the ceiling and roofing works, which includes provisional sums if required.

“Approve the expenditure of up to £13,873 for professional fees.

“Responsibility for monitoring the programme to be carried out by the Capital Senior Project Manager within the spend budget.”

“The ceiling and roofing works are included in the schools capital maintenance programme and unforeseen elements were found that requires urgent attention due to health and safety reasons.

“Central Roofing and Building Services Ltd were the successful bidder following a successful tender via the Council’s procurement portal and in contract with Herefordshire Council which allows for variations.

“To deliver beneficial improvements in the condition of the Council’s Educational building stock, improving the educational experience for pupils within the buildings. 

“To reduce ongoing building maintenance costs by addressing known defects with high maintenance cost potential and preventing further deterioration.

“To ensure all Council buildings are fit for purpose and maintained to the standards as set out in the condition survey to address suitability, sustainability and affordability.”
