Amazon has confirmed that it will raise the price of its Prime service this autumn due to higher operating costs. From September, monthly subscriptions will go up £1 to £8.99 per month and an annual membership will rise from £79 to £95.

Members across the UK started to receive messages confirming the increase earlier this week.

Martin Lewis, the founder of Money Saving Expert, offered some handy advice for Amazon Prime subscribers on Twitter:

One user disagreed and advised customers to boycott Amazon altogether by saying:

“Here’s an idea: stop buying stuff from Amazon. You could save £79pa by shopping locally, supporting local businesses and maintaining your region’s tax base.”
