The Accident & Emergency Department at Hereford County Hospital (Wye Valley NHS Trust) is currently ‘very busy’ and people should consider alternatives, according to a post shared by Wye Valley NHS Trust on Twitter.

Members of the public have reported long waits at A&E with a number of people waiting in ambulances for a number of hours before being seen.

A spokesperson for Wye Valley NHS Trust said:

“Hereford County Hospital’s Emergency Department is currently very busy.

“We’re here if you need us, but please consider alternatives – NHS111, pharmacy and GP – if it’s not urgent.”

There has been increasing pressure on the NHS over recent months, with a backlog of patients requiring treatment and the ongoing challenges of the pandemic.

The number of patients with COVID-19 at Hereford County Hospital has also risen to 27 this week, up six on the week before.
