Lady Hawkins School in Herefordshire will close early for the October half term, to give a ten day ‘fire break’ to slow the spread of COVID-19.

A letter sent to parents said:

Dear Parent / Carer,

COVID-19 Testing – We have recently been aware of rising cases of COVID-19 amongst our school community and have taken several steps to combat the spread of this, such as the re-introduction of facemasks in lessons, increased cleaning routines and regular home LFT testing.

We appreciate your support with these extra measures and would now like to offer supervised LFT testing to students on Friday 15th, Monday 18th and Wednesday 20th October to try to pick up any students who may be asymptomatic.

Lessons will continue as normal during this time. If your child does test positive we will inform you straight away and ask you to collect them from school.

Half Term – We have taken the decision to close for half term on Thursday 21st October, which is only a day early, but allows everyone 10 full days away from school, to act as a ‘fire break’ in transmission. Students Isolating. We are only expecting students to work at home if they are feeling well enough to do so. For those that are isolating at home and are able to complete work then teachers will set tasks via the school Microsoft Teams site. It is a challenge ensuring students studying at home and in school are supported and we are working hard to ensure that no students are disadvantaged by an enforced period of self-isolation.

We would encourage all students to engage with their teachers and contact them via email or Teams, especially if they are not sure what they need to do or require any extra work.
