A school in Hereford is considering a total ban on mobile phones in school after a number of students received concerning messages.

The Assistant Headteacher of Hereford Academy said in a letter to parents that it was one option that the school was looking at.

Mr P Walker (Assistant Headteacher) described the impact that social media is having on students and how it is affecting their mental health. He went on to describe how the school had received information about a number of incidents involving the misuse of social media.

Mr Walker went on to say that, ‘due to the increasing prevalence of social media and the proven negative effects of certain apps that children use, we are considering a full ban on mobile devices for children on school site, effective from September 2022.
