NEWS | A man who was sentenced to three years for making threats to kill will face deportation from the UK back to Syria

A man who was sentenced to three years will face deportation from the UK.

Fars Mtawea, 46, of St Marys Road, London, was given a 36-month sentence at Worcester Crown Court yesterday (Thursday 26 September) after he was found guilty of making threats to kill in a domestic abuse case.

Mtawea was also handed a restraining order against his victim, who he subjected to abuse in Evesham. The order prohibits him from contacting his victim directly or indirectly.

As a foreign national with a sentence over 12 months he is liable for automatic deportation to his country of origin, Syria.

Detective Inspector Marie Green, of the Protecting Vulnerable People (PVP) team, said:

“We are pleased to get this result against Mtawea who made appalling threats to kill against his victim. The courage of the victim coming forward and hard work by DC Lucy Edwards and the PVP team has led to this great result.

“Given his status as a foreign national he now faces deportation to Syria.

“We hope this verdict sends a message West Mercia Police will always act on domestic abuse cases and work hard to secure a result at court. We always encourage people to come forward and report similar offences to us.”
