A major route in Herefordshire is set to remain closed for the majority of the afternoon following a fatal collision.

The A44 is closed between Leominster and Monkland following a serious collision this morning. One man has sadly died.

West Midlands Ambulance Service, West Mercia Police and Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service all attended the collision.

Accident investigation work is taking place at the scene.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service told Your Herefordshire:

“We were called at 09.33am to a road traffic collision involving a motorbike on Monkland Road in Stag Batch, Herefordshire.

“A paramedic officer and a BASICS emergency doctor attended the scene.

“Upon arrival, we found a man who was the motorcyclist.

“Unfortunately, it was clear that nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed deceased by ambulance staff at the scene.”

There is significant traffic congestion on routes in Leominster and the surrounding area as a result of the collision and road closure.

Motorists are advised to use an alternative route.
