A man has been sentenced at court today (Friday 25 April) to three years and six months for raping and sexually assaulting a girl.
Joshua Newell, 33, of Peach Avenue, Drakes Broughton, was found guilty of rape of a girl aged under 16 between 2005 and 2007 and sexual assault on a girl between 2007 and 2008 at a trial in February. He was under 16 at the time of the offences.
Today at Worcester Crown Court, Newell was sentenced to three years and six months for these crimes and three further indecent photograph offences he pleaded guilty to. His age at the time of the offences was taking into consideration for sentencing.
He was also ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely.
The latter were convictions for making an indecent photograph, namely accessible Category A movie of a child and making indecent photographs, namely two accessible Category B movies of a child.
Newell was also convicted of possessing extreme pornographic images, namely 14 accessible extreme pornographic movies which portrayed, in an explicit and realistic way, a person performing an act of intercourse with a live animal, which were grossly offensive, disgusting or otherwise of an obscene character and a reasonable person looking at the image would think that any such person or animal was real.
Those three offences were committed between 2016 and 2022. He was further ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £115 at court today.
Detective Constable Ian Jones of Hereford CID said: “We are pleased to get this sentencing for Newell today for these horrific sexual crimes and would like to praise the courage of the victim and those affected by his actions for their bravery in coming forward.
“We hope this successful prosecution shows we always take people who think they are a victim of sexual offences seriously, no matter how long ago they may have taken place and will do our utmost to secure a prosecution and conviction against those perpetrating these crimes.
