Damien Evans runs Symonds of Hereford Ltd, but is currently feeling anxious ahead of the budget on 30th October.
The business based on Widemarsh Street sells a fantastic range of men’s suits and clothing, but like every other business in the UK it is facing challenges in the current economical climate.
Damien told Your Herefordshire:
“It’s getting harder running your own business. There always seems to be a challenge and an obstacle in the way. The budget is next week and we will definitely be keeping our eyes on it.”
Damien added:
“This time of year we tend to call the golden quarter of trade, but the last five years we have had Covid, then the cost of living crisis, then the energy rises and people do some a bit wary of spending money at present.
“They definitely seem to be waiting on what is announced by the government next Wednesday.
“Local issues are also not helping.
“Customers tell me that the parking charges in the city put them off. You go to other places and the parking is either free, or a lot cheaper, this then affects the footfall.
“It’s hard for everybody at present, but I just hope Rachel Reeves is kind to us and it ends up with people having more money in their pocket to spend.”
