The Quarters, in Leominster, took to social media, stating that due to the ongoing cost of living crisis and the spiralling costs associated with funerals, they are happy to host the events completely free of charge.
A spokesperson for the venue said “Two of the owners of The Quarters have had to arrange family funerals within the last 18 months and know just how quickly the costs can pile up. The last thing anybody dealing with loss should have to worry about, is being able to give their loved one the perfect send off. With this in mind, we’ve taken the decision to offer our services completely free of charge.”
The premises can hold 140 people but they have said that they are happy to accommodate even the smallest of gatherings. “Last year we held a small wake for a lady with no family. Eight of her friends and carers came together to raise a glass and toast her life, it was small, personal and beautiful. Everyone should have a chance to say goodbye, whether that’s a gathering of ten or one hundred.
With the average cost of a basic funeral in the UK being in excess of £4000 that leaves little for the extras such as flowers, cars or venues for gatherings. Having the option to hire a venue at no cost will definitely assist families during these difficult times.
