A Herefordshire school has confirmed that it will be closed on Wednesday, due to anticipated strike action.
Lady Hawkins’ School posted the following update on social media earlier today:
“I am sure that you are already aware that there is a day of industrial action planned by the National Education Union on Wednesday this week.
“Employment legislation does not allow Headteachers to ask staff whether or not they are planning to strike and, as a result we will not know for certain which staff will strike and which will be at work.
“We were hoping to be able to keep school open on Wednesday, however conversations this morning indicate that we are expecting close to half of LHS teaching staff to be out on industrial action. As a result of this, and taking into account the guidance from other unions, I am concerned that we cannot cover lessons or provide enough supervision during non-contact times to adequately meet our safeguarding requirements.
“Lady Hawkins’ School will therefore have to close to students on Wednesday 1st February.
“There is work on Teams which students can access during the enforced school closure, please contact the school if you are having any issues with this before Wednesday morning.
“We will contact carers of the most vulnerable students to ensure that we can meet their needs.”
