Mark Radon from Hereford has spent the past 12 months looking to raise £10,000 for St Michaels Hospice with various running fundraisers. This in memory of his sister, Jo, who was cared for by St Michael’s Hospice before sadly passing away at just 39.

But when Mark himself was diagnosed with cancer, he had to pause his running fundraisers.

Now, in spite of his diagnosis, Mark is determined to spend 2025 tackling a series of gruelling runs to hit his £10,000 target!

Mark told Your Herefordshire

“After one of the fund raising events last year, when in September I ran a 50 mile Ultra with a 38lb weighted bergen on my back, I developed some symptoms that led me to seek medical advice.

Some scans, an X-ray, a CT scan and a biopsy later, the verdict came back: High grade diffuse B cell non-hodgkin lymphoma. The irony that I had contracted cancer whilst raising money for my sister’s memory after her own brave battle against cancer was not lost on me.

As I stand and fight my own battle now, I take this opportunity to do something for the Hospice again – so many families like mine rely on those fine nurses to care for them and their loved one in these dark times.

I will be completing 2025 miles in 2025 as I fight my own battle against cancer, as I recover from chemotherapy and regain all the strength and fitness I have had until this year”
