A Hereford secondary school has announced a major change to its uniform from September 2023.

The Bishop of Hereford’s Bluecoat School sent a letter to all parents detailing the changes.

In the letter, Headteacher Martin Henton said:

“I am writing to you to update you on changes to our school uniform from September 2023.

“As you may well be aware we changed the PE kit, skirt and tie for our year 7 students from September 2022. We have had very positive feedback from students and families about how smart our students look in this new uniform.

“The new PE kit is flexible to allow students to be warm and to have choices in the items they wear and has been designed by our students. It is also gender neutral so that all students wear the same smart PE kit.

“From September 2023 we have taken the decision, due to low stock levels and to keep our uniform consistent to introduce the new PE kit, skirt and tie to the current Year 8 and Year 9 students. We are giving all parents and carers plenty of notice to help with your planning of replacing these items in time for September.

“For our current Year 10 students we are introducing the new school skirt but the new PE Kit and tie will not be compulsory. We appreciate that these students will only have one year left at school and therefore for Year 10 parents you will be able to purchase one new school skirt from our school shop at 50% of the usual price.

“Please note that this discount is not available through the School Uniform Shop.

“If your child outgrows an item before this time they can convert earlier to the new PE kit, skirt and tie but from September 2023 we will expect all students in years 8, 9 and 10 to have purchased the compulsory items relevant to their year group. Many families have already bought items due to lower stock levels in our existing PE kit items.

“The PE Kit is available to purchase direct from Club Sport in town or on line. All other items of uniform can be purchased directly from our school shop, details of which are on our web site, and the Uniform Shop in town.

“We thank you for your support in these changes.”
