A group of five women from Herefordshire have just started a 150 mile walk from Hereford to Woolacombe Bay in Devon.
George passed away two years ago from a rare form of cancer and his mother Laura has organised a walk with four of her friends to raise money for charity. She told Your Herefordshire “We are really lucky, we’ve had lots of support from everybody, hopefully we won’t get lost, it will be around 19 miles each day, but the first leg of the journey will be 23 miles and that takes us the other side of Monmouth”
We asked Laura where the walking squad will be staying “Army barracks, travel lodge’s, to be fair it gets nicer as we get closer to the destination. We have been doing plenty of training for this and we have had support with planning the route so we don’t end up going the wrong way. It’s just amazing seeing the support here today from so many people”
Around 300 people were at Stretton Sugwas school to see off the group and many walked the 1st leg which was from the school to the Monument pub on Whitecross Road. The journey to Devon will also involve walking across the old Severn Bridge, plus a walk through Minehead.
