A county wide rollout of 20mph speed limits in Hereford and other areas of the county, such as market town, could be a step closer today.

Anna Semlyen (20’s Plenty for Us UK Campaign Manager) shared a following tweet a short while ago, confirming that she had been invited to meet Councillor John Harrington to discuss the roll out of 20mph limits.

20’s Plenty for Us is ‘not for profit’ with 500 local groups campaigning to make cities, towns and villages around the world better places to be.

They campaign for a speed limit of 20mph to be normal on residential streets and in town and village centres, unless full consideration of the needs of vulnerable road users allows a higher limit on particular streets.

20mph speed limits were temporarily introduced in Hereford and market towns during the COVID-19 pandemic when council’s were given permission to impose emergency transport measures to support social distancing but these measures were lifted by Herefordshire Council in the summer. Cllr Harrington did however mention at the time that the council could consider imposing such measures once again in the future.
