West Mercia Police have this morning confirmed to Your Herefordshire that 18 fixed penalty notices were handed out to individuals that attended gatherings on New Year’s Eve, despite Herefordshire being under strict Tier 3 COVID-19 restrictions.

Superintendent Edd Williams said:  “In Herefordshire we’ve all had to get used to the rules of three different tiers in just a couple of weeks. That’s why we’re particularly grateful that the vast majority of people did exactly the right thing and stayed home for New Year’s Eve.

“Sadly there were some people who flouted the rules and 18 fixed penalty notices were issued to people at three different gatherings and parties across the county.

“We know it’s not the end to 2020 everyone wanted but by following the rules for a bit longer we can hopefully come out the other side of this sooner rather than later.”
