From Welsh Water:
The repair on the collapsed sewer in Commercial Road is nearing completion, although the concrete used will need around seven days to cure to ensure the repair doesn’t fail.
As we said in our last update, we brought in specialist team to clean fat and wet wipes that were clogging the sewer, which is 80m long.
During this work we identified another collapse 18m upstream, between two buildings in Monkmoor Street, near its junction with Commercial Road.
To enable us to safely carry out this repair, in a narrow road close to two buildings, and to prevent us further impacting businesses on Monkmoor Street, we are going to need to keep our compound on Commercial Road.
This will also allow us to pump wastewater to prevent flooding of properties, if needed, to the manhole on Commercial Road.
The second repair is going to be complex with the two buildings, including cellars, so close, and a bigger concentration of other utilities in the working area.
We expect this work to take another five weeks, but we will be working hard to get it done as quickly as possible.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank people for bearing with us.
