Following a safety inspection of the track between Craven Arms and Church Stretton train services will be replaced by road transport between Hereford and Shrewsbury and Llandrindod and Shrewsbury while Network Rail carry out repairs.

From Network Rail:

Urgent repairs to the track between Church Stretton and Craven Arms mean that all lines running between Shrewsbury and Llandrindod / Hereford are closed. This means trains will not run between these stations.

Trains between Wales and England will terminate or start their journeys at either Shrewsbury or Hereford. Trains on the Heart of Wales line will run between Llandrindod and Swansea only.

Major disruption is expected until the end of the day on Tuesday 29 April.

Rail replacement transport will be provided by Swain’s, Keane’s, Lakeside, Regional Transport, CMD, Longmynd, JKT and First Choice between Shrewsbury and Hereford and Llandrindod and Shrewsbury to help you complete your journey at no extra cost.

Travelling using rail replacement transport will result in extended journey times. Please allow extra time to complete your journey.

You can use your ticket at no extra cost on the following alternative routes:

  • Avanti West Coast between Chester and Crewe, and between Crewe and Birmingham New Street
  • CrossCountry between Manchester Piccadilly / Cardiff Central and Birmingham New Street
  • Great Western Railway between Bristol Parkway and Cardiff Central (to connect with CrossCountry services to / from Birmingham)
  • Northern between Manchester Piccadilly and Crewe
  • West Midlands Railway between Birmingham New Street and Hereford

A collapsed culvert means the line between Church Stretton and Craven Arms is closed whilst Network Rail teams complete the necessary repairs.

The North Wales South Wales service, the Marches Line, and the Heart of Wales Line are all disrupted. You can find a map of the Transport for Wales network here.
