There are reports of a serious collision on the M50 this morning.

The collision is near the junction with the A417 (Ledbury).

Emergency searches are at the scene. Traffic is building up in the area. 

The incident appears to be on the eastbound carriageway, but there are reports that traffic is also building up westbound.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said:

“Today (Tuesday 1 April), around 8.20am, officers were called to junction 2 of the M50 following a report a lorry had collided with the central reservation.

“Paramedics were also on scene and attending to the driver. The incident is now being managed by Highways.”

A spokesperson for Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said:

“Four Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews – one each from Ross-on-Wye, Hereford, Droitwich and Evesham Fire Stations – were called at 08:24 on 1 April to an RTC involving a large vehicle on the M50 Eastbouund between junctions 1 and 2.

“A HGV carrying steel was in collision with a car. No persons were trapped.

“Police and ambulance are also in attendance. The M50 has been subject to a total closure. The incident is ongoing.”

Motorists are advised to use an alternative route if possible.
