A festival has been evacuated this afternoon due to severe weather conditions.
Ludlow Comedy Festival has been evacuated due to severe weather conditions this afternoon.
Crowds were evacuated at shortly after 4pm this afternoon. As of 5.18pm, hundreds of people remain in streets surrounding Ludlow Castle, awaiting news on when they will be allowed back into the event, with the severe weather now having cleared away.
Thunderstorms have been spreading northwards through Herefordshire and into Shropshire this afternoon and into this evening.
A Met Office warning that’s in place until 9pm this evening says:
“Scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop during the course of Sunday.
“Rainfall amounts will vary from place to place but in some locations 20-40 mm is possible within a couple of hours.
“Heavy downpours of rain will be the primary hazard, but lightning strikes are also likely along with the potential for hail and gusty winds.”
