A Hereford school introduces Heatwave measures as temperatures rise.

The Hereford Academy has announced temporary changes to the school day this week in response to the current heatwave, with measures designed to protect the health and wellbeing of students and staff while maintaining learning opportunities.

In a message to parents and carers, the academy said it is taking a cautious approach as high temperatures continue across the region.

Under the revised arrangements, the school will continue to open at its usual time of 8.45am on all affected days. However, students will finish earlier than normal on Wednesday and Thursday:

  • Wednesday 24 June – School opens at 8.45am, brunch/light lunch at 10.55am, with students leaving site at 12.30pm.
  • Thursday 25 June – School opens at 8.45am, brunch/light lunch at 10.55am, with students leaving site at 12.30pm.
  • Friday 26 June – School opens at 8.45am, light lunch at 1.20pm, with students leaving site at 3.25pm.

To help students stay comfortable during the hot weather, the academy is allowing pupils to wear their PE kit for the remainder of the week. Alternatively, students may wear plain black shorts and plain T-shirts with small logos as a temporary uniform adjustment.

The school is also encouraging students to bring a refillable water bottle each day. Additional water stations have been set up around the campus to ensure pupils can stay hydrated throughout the school day.

Parents and carers have been asked to support the school’s efforts by ensuring children apply sunscreen before arriving at school and wear a sun hat during the period of hot weather.

The temporary arrangements are expected to remain in place for the duration of the heatwave, with the academy continuing to monitor conditions and prioritise the safety of its school community.
