A flood alert has been issued on the River Lugg (North of Leominster) following heavy rain earlier today.

The Environment Agency warning says:

“River levels are forecast to rise at the Byton river gauge as a result of Storm Barra. Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is expected to begin this afternoon, 08/12/21. We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads to the River Lugg north of Leominster.

“Locations that may be affected include Yarpole, Mortimers Cross, Kingsland and the B4362. Further rainfall is forecast over the next 12 hours. We expect river levels to rise until 16:00 on 08/12/21.

“We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded. This message will be updated tomorrow morning 09/12/21 by 09:00, or as the situation changes.”
