The A438 at Letton is now closed in Herefordshire due to flooding. Levels on the River Wye are expected to peak this afternoon.
Herefordshire Council have confirmed that the following roads are closed:

River Wye in Herefordshire:
“River levels are rising at the Bredwardine, Belmont, Old Wye Bridge, Mordiford and Ross-On-Wye river gauges as a result of heavy rainfall.
“Consequently, the risk of flooding remains.
“We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads along the River Wye from Hay on Wye to Ross on Wye.
“Locations that may be affected include the A438, Byford, Bredwardine and Hereford. Wilton lane may be flooded up to the junction with Fishermans Reach, Ross.
“Predicted peaks:- Hay on Wye peaked at 3.0m at 4am this morning 24/02, Bredwardine 4.7m to 4.9m on 24/02, Belmont 4.7m to 4.9m at on 24/02, Old Wye Bridge 4.2m to 4.3m on 24/02, Mordiford 4.3m to 4.5m on 24/02, Ross on Wye 3.7m to 4.0m on 25/02.
“We expect river levels to remain high for the next few days.
“We are closely monitoring the situation.
“Our incident response staff are checking defences.
“Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses.”
River Lugg – south of Leominster:
“River levels are rising at the Lugwardine river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall.
“Consequently, the risk of flooding remains.
“We expect flooding to affect Low lying land and roads adjacent to the River Lugg south of Leominster from Stoke Prior to Mordiford.
“Other locations that may be affected include Bodenham, Lugwardine and Hampton Bishop.
“We expect river levels to remain high for the next few days.
“We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences.
“Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.”
River Leadon Catchment:
“River levels remain high at the Wedderburn Bridge river gauge as a result of recent rainfall.
“Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is expected today, Monday 24/02/2025.
“We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads adjacent to the River Leadon.
“Locations that may be affected include Ledbury, Much Marcle, Staunton and Tibberton. Water may be out of bank at Upleadon Court. Further light rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours.
“We expect river levels to remain high for the next few days. We are closely monitoring the situation.
“Our incident response staff are checking defences and clearing weed screens. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.”
Upper Teme:
“River levels remain high but steady at the Leintwardine river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall. Consequently, the risk of flooding remains.
“We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads adjacent the River Teme, River Onny and River Corve and their tributaries.
“Locations that may be affected include Bishops Castle, Church Stretton, Knighton and Ludlow.
“Predicted peaks:- Leintwardine is peaking now at 1.2m. Onibury peaked at 1.85m at 3am this morning, Monday 24/02/2025.
“We expect river levels to remain high until Wednesday, the 26/02/25.
“We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences.
“Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.”
