A flood alert has been issued on the River Wye in Herefordshire, following heavy rain in Wales.

Almost two inches of rain have fallen in parts of Powys, leading to levels rising upstream on the Wye in Wales.

A peak has already been reached at Builth Wells, with levels still rising at Hay-on-Wye and Hereford. Due to industrial action, predicted peaks are unavailable, but Your Herefordshire understands that no significant flooding is expected but flooding may affect riverside paths for a time.

The Flood Alert issued by the Environment Agency says:

“Flooding is possible in this area. Monitor local water levels and weather conditions. Avoid using low lying footpaths or entering areas prone to flooding. Start acting on your flood plan if you have one.

“The Environment Agency Flood Warning System has issued this message based on rising river or tidal levels. We are temporarily automating our messages due to industrial action.”
