Former Hereford United captain David Norton played at Edgar Street from 1996-1998. An injury meant his appearances were curtailed during the 1997/1998 season and was released from his contract.
Without a club he had to go to the PFA who paid for a career saving operation. He then signed for Cheltenham Town and returned to Edgar Street with his new team top of the GM Vauxhall Conference.
