Hospice supporter Jake Chislett is taking on a 24-hour endurance challenge in memory of his sister, who died at St Michael’s just a few months ago.

On May 17th, Jake will be joined by five friends to tackle the Jurassic Coast Ultra Challenge, which involves 62 miles of continuous running, jogging and walking.

The mammoth route features over 2,300 metres of climbing, with only brief water, food and toilet stops.

“We’re not exactly well seasoned ultra-athletes, but we are willing to grit our teeth and get the job done to raise money for a good cause,” said Jake.

Jake’s motivation is the care given to his big sister, Hannah, who died at St Michael’s shortly after being diagnosed with Stage 4 colorectal cancer.

“Hannah initially went into the Hospice for pain management,” Jake added. “She said that once she had her pain under control and things were back to some sort of normality, she would love to come back and volunteer or fundraise at St Michael’s. Very sadly, this wasn’t to be the case. So, I have decided to start fundraising on her behalf, very much in her memory.

“The reason I want to raise money for this Hospice is because, not only did they provide around the clock care, but they also made a huge effort to make memories for us as a family.”

Jake will be joined for the challenge by Charlie Sharpe, Tomas Zmolil, Josh Hosford, Michael Prentice, and Neal Chainey.
