Ledbury looks set to be getting a Home Bargains store, with a planning application approved by Herefordshire Council.
According to Herefordshire Council documents, approval – ‘subject to conditions’ was granted by Herefordshire Council on Thursday 6th February.
The planning application was submitted in 2024, for the current Homebase store on New Mills Industrial Estate in Ledbury, to be turned into a Home Bargains store.
The Homebase store is one of many that is currently holding a closing down sale, ahead of the permanent closure of the store in Ledbury.
The Application Site comprises a well-established retail destination and is recognised as being an appropriate location for large-format retailing, currently occupied by Homebase whose lease expires in 2025.
A new lease has not been agreed and Homebase have confirmed that they will be vacating the unit at lease expiry.
Given the lease expiry and a desire to avoid the unit becoming vacant, alternative occupiers have been identified and the Application Site has been identified as an appropriate location for a new Home Bargains (HB) store (the trading arm of TJM).
Subject to modifications as set out in the planning application, the Homebase site can achieve their operational requirements and alongside their desire to be represented in Ledbury.
The application comprises a package of works that will reconfigure and refurbish the retail unit to suit the trading requirement of Home Bargains.
This also includes the ability to sell a wider range of retail goods when compared to the existing restriction attached to the unit.
The application will allow the building to be refurbished to a high standard and meet the operating requirements of the intended occupier.
The Business currently has more than 600 stores throughout the UK and plans to
expand to over 1,200 stores employing over 40,000 staff.
Home Bargains is one of the UK’s fastest growing discount retailers.
Home Bargains operates within the discount, or value, retail sector.
Affordable access to good quality everyday goods is more important now than ever given the cost-of-living issues that people throughout the UK are increasingly facing.
Home Bargains strap line is ‘Top Brands — Bottom Prices’.
The discount retailer sector has seen significant growth in recent years as shoppers have been attracted by the quality of products and competitive pricing.
The proposed store when opened, would generate up to 100no. full and part-time job opportunities which is a significant increase compared to the existing Homebase store.
Most of these job opportunities will be available to local people and will be across a range of scales, and there will be an opportunity for existing Homebase staff to apply for a job to work in the proposed Home Bargains store in the future, should planning permission be granted.
