Police have this evening confirmed that a nine-year-old boy has died after being struck by lightning in Blackpool earlier today.
The nine-year-old boy is believed to have been struck by lightning whilst playing football on a field in Blackpool, Lancashire earlier today. Emergency services attended the incident and earlier described the boy as having serious injuries. Sadly Police confirmed a short while ago that the boy had since passed away and that his family had been informed.
Many parts of the United Kingdom have been hit by severe storms today, with parts of Wales, The Midlands and North-West England worst affected.
