Heathrow Airport will remain closed for the rest of the day (Friday 21st March), following a severe fire at an electrical substation.

Passengers have been told to stay away and not to travel to the airport and urged to contact their airline. Major disruption is expected.

In an update, Heathrow Airport said:

“Due to a fire at an electrical substation supplying the airport, Heathrow is experiencing a significant power outage.

“To maintain the safety of our passengers and colleagues, Heathrow will be closed until 23:59 on 21 March.

“Passengers are advised not to travel to the airport and should contact their airline for further information.

“We apologise for the inconvenience.”

Heathrow is the UK’s biggest airport, located 14 miles west of Central London and serving hundreds of destinations across the world.
