A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a major incident in South Wales.

The incident occurred in Aberfan, with schools put into lockdown and a major manhunt launched.

Local residents quickly stated that a women had been stabbed in an incident in Aberfan this morning and that the suspect had fled the scene. Police later confirmed this and launched a large scale manhunt to track him down.

A short while ago, South Wales Police confirmed that a 28-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the incident.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said:

“Following a report that a 29-year-old woman had been stabbed on Moy Road, #Aberfan, #Merthyr earlier this morning, officers have arrested a 28-year- old man from Merthyr on suspicion of attempt murder.

“He is currently in police custody.”

Earlier on South Wales provided an update on the 29-year-old woman who had been stabbed.

A spokesperson for the force said:

“A woman has been taken to hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.”
