Further restrictions on people arriving in the United Kingdom will be announced later today, vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi confirmed in an interview on Sky News this morning.

It comes as speculation has increased that people arriving in the United Kingdom could have to stay in a Quarantine Hotel upon arrival, in a step aimed at keeping new variants of the virus out of the country.

Government ministers are set to meet today to finalise the plans, but further restrictions will be a huge blow to the travel industry with this announcement all but closing the borders, with people unlikely to travel if having to quarantine in a hotel on arrival.

Both Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Health Secretary Matt Hancock have recently stated that more measures are likely to be needed to keep new variants of the virus out of the UK.
