90-year-old Margaret Keenan has become the first person in the United Kingdom to receive the Pfizer Biontech COVID-19 vaccine.
Margaret said it was the ‘best early birthday present’ that she could have possibly wished for and Health Secretary Matt Hancock admitted that he was emotional when watching her receive the vaccine live on television this morning.
Vaccinations will take place at numerous hospital hubs across the United Kingdom over the coming weeks.
The government has secured 40 million doses of the vaccine, which needs to be refrigerated at -70C (-94F). Trials have shown that the vaccine is up to 95% effective at preventing COVID-19 and that one of its major benefits is that it works in all age groups.
