Prime Minister Boris Johnson will host a Coronavirus Press Conference at 5pm this evening and he is expected to announce that nearly all COVID-19 restrictions will be lifted from 19th July.
The Prime Minister is expected to tell the country that we now must ‘live with COVID’ and open up society, to help limit any further damage to the economy.
Despite an increase in cases across the United Kingdom, mainly due to the Delta variant, Boris Johnson is expected to announce that face masks will no longer be compulsory from 19th July and that you will no longer be required to scan a QR code to enter a bar or restaurant. A few restrictions may remain in place if cases continue to rise, but nightclubs and festivals are expected to be given the go ahead to open.
Boris Johnson is also expected to make comments regarding visits to care homes and the possibility of scrapping the one metre plus rule.
Step four of the governments roadmap out of COVID-19 restrictions was due to take place on 21st June, but was delayed until 19th July at the earliest, following concerns over rising cases and a slight rise in hospitalisations back in June.
