Prime Minister Boris Johnson will host a COVID-19 press conference later today, on the anniversary of the first lockdown being announced.

Mr Johnson is expected to reflect on the past year, where over 125,000 COVID-19 related deaths were recorded. A National Day of Reflection is taking place with millions taking part in a minute’s silence at noon and millions also expected to be on their doorsteps at 8pm to remember those lives lost.

The Prime Minister has warned that the United Kingdom is likely to ‘feel the effects’ of the third wave of COVID-19 that is currently surging in parts of Europe.

The press conference will take part at 5pm and Boris Johnson will be joined by Professor Chris Whitty, England’s chief medical officer, and Sir Patrick Vallance, the government’s chief scientific adviser.
