Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been urged by Jesse Norman (MP for Hereford and Herefordshire South) to take urgent action to help protect the River Wye from pollution.

Jesse Norman asked the question at Prime Minister’s Questions this lunchtime.

Jesse Norman explained the concerns over phosphates and other pollution affecting the River Wye and its tributaries. He went on to urge the government to push for a single implemented strategy and for the Welsh Government, The Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales to come to table to find long term solutions. He also brought up the subject of a ringfenced national rivers recovery fund.

The Prime Minister replied by saying ‘I had a memorable swim in the River Wye at 5am once and it tasted like Nectar. I understand the problem it faces. We will be visiting the area soon.’
