The Government has this lunchtime announced that booster COVID-19 vaccines will be offered to people aged 50 and over, as well as care workers and frontline health workers.
The announcement was made during a COVID-19 briefing, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson expected to provide further details on the rollout of booster vaccines when he hosts a COVID-19 press briefing later on this afternoon.
The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation said in the briefing that the Pfizer vaccine should be used for a booster, or if this isn’t available, a half-dose of a Moderna jab should be offered. They have also advised that the third dose should only be administered six months after a person has received their second dose.
