Police say that a number of arrests are being made after protesters brought traffic to a standstill on a busy route linking Wales and England earlier today.

A protest is currently underway near Magor, with traffic backed up for several miles along the M4, with motorists getting out of their vehicles and playing football on the motorway in some parts.

Chief Superintendent Tom Harding of Gwent Police confirmed that a number of arrests were being made.

The Prince of Wales Bridge has now been closed for more than an hour, with travel chaos for thousands of motorists.

Protesters are blocking areas of the road in a protest about rising fuel costs, with pressure growing on the government and Chancellor Rishi Sunak to cut fuel duty further.
