Armed officers have been called and schools are in lockdown after a major incident in South Wales this morning.

South Wales Police are the scene of a major incident in Aberfan.

Armed officers are also in attendance with South Wales Police saying it is responding following a serious assault this morning. 

A spokesperson for South Wales Police (Rhondda Cynon Taf, Merthyr Tydfil and Bridgend) said:

“Emergency services are responding to serious assault that took place on Moy Road, Aberfan, Merthyr just before 9.10am this morning.

“Armed officers are in the area, and we request that people avoid the area so that we can effectively deal with this incident.

“More detail will follow as soon as available.”
