A man has been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Ricky Harris, who has been missing since November 2023.

South Wales Police confirmed that a 41-year-old man from Mountain Ash was arrested on suspicion of preventing a lawful burial and perverting the course of justice in connection with Mr Harris’s disappearance.

The suspect remains in police custody while enquiries continue.

Mr Harris’s family has been informed of the latest development and continues to receive support from specialist officers.

Ricky Harris was last seen on CCTV at approximately 2.20pm on November 18, 2023, in the Maes-y-Deri area of Aberdare. Despite extensive searches and a lengthy investigation, his whereabouts remain unknown.

Police say the investigation has been exhaustive, with officers continuing to review new information and follow up on leads in an effort to establish what happened to him.

As part of the ongoing inquiry, officers are currently searching the former Phurnacite site in Abercwmboi. Police have warned that the search operation is likely to take some time to complete but said efforts are being made to minimise disruption to people using nearby public spaces.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for information from the public. Anyone who may have seen or spoken to Mr Harris in the days or weeks leading up to his disappearance, or who has any information that could assist the investigation, is urged to come forward.
