The Facebook page ‘Peterchurch in Picture’ was set up in October 2020 at one of the worst peaks of Covid, with people isolated by shielding and social distancing. When many could not or would not go out, local people began to share mobile phone pictures of their views of Peterchurch. They attempted to celebrate the village and surrounding valley through changing seasons, over the period of one year. In doing so, it is hoped, that members of the thread felt connected to the outside world, despite the pandemic restrictions. The page has proven to be a truly positive and inclusive on-line Gallery and hopefully it supported the Wellbeing of local people and those who know the village well.
To celebrate the talent of the community photographers, 6 volunteers from the group (Cynthia Huckle, Lynette Davies, Carrie Richardson, Georgina Spencer, Gill Perkins and Emma Thacker-Vuts), worked together to create this exhibition. With generous funding support from Director Kate Gladwyn at Longtown Cherished Funerals, it was possible to print 350 of the 1650 photographs. Peterchurch holds many special memories for Kate, from staying at the Alms house with her late nan, to her close family members living in the village. Donated frames from people within the village community and Herefordshire Community Recycling & Reuse Group create a domestic, homely feel within The Hub at St Peters Church where it is aimed that the exhibition can be enjoyed by a wide audience in person.
The framed photographs are for sale until Dec 16th, in time for Christmas gifting and deliberately at low prices. This is because we believe that buying artwork should be accessible to everyone. However, if you think they are worth more please donate when you purchase. Donations will go to St Michael’s Hospice, Hereford.
You can attend a special event marking the opening of the exhibition this evening (Thursday 4th November – 7pm-9pm in the Hub at St Peter’s Church.
The exhibition will run from Nov 2nd 2021.
