The Royal National College for the Blind (RNC) Welcomes New Fundraising Manager

This month, RNC said ‘hello’ to its new Fundraising Manager, Melanie Denning, who joins from The Courtyard Arts Centre where she was Individual Giving Manager for many years.

Melanie is passionate about encouraging more people to support the College locally and from across the UK. She is also looking forward to getting to know the students and staff and learning more about the great education and life skills training the College delivers with its visually impaired students. Melanie said:

‘All of us know someone who has adversely affected sight and the RNC is super skilled at what it does best, being the only residential college in the UK focusing primarily on education for 16-25 year olds with sight loss. I’ve only been in post a few weeks but I am already bowled over by how brilliantly the whole RNC team care for their students and the rich array of opportunities they’re offered to improve their education, work and life skills. This equips them in a truly impressive way for living as independently as possible into adulthood and beyond, whether their next steps are university or other qualifications, work or volunteering in their own communities.’

Melanie adds that RNC cannot sustain and develop its range of enriching opportunities for its students without additional support and the current specialist education funding climate is already challenging, before factoring in the substantial effects of Covid19.

‘That’s why ongoing support from individuals, trusts and foundations and the business sector are going to be so important for the College’s future,’ she stresses.

‘I’d love to hear from anyone in our local community or further afield that thinks they could make a difference – whether that’s taking on a personal or community fundraising challenge, offering corporate support or individual donations. Everyone has the ability to make a difference and have a positive impact on the futures of our visually impaired students.’
